Welcome back for some more Casino Tipps. There are some games you can dip in and out of and pick up the rules fairly quickly – if you know Texas Hold’em for example you’ll largely know how to play Omaha, or Five Card Stud. On the other hand, and I can tell you this from personal experience, it helps to know how completely different Razz is from the more traditional variants. So when your next at the Online Kasino, just observe Razz for a while before diving in and make sure you understand the rules.
Razz (also known with slight variations as London Lowball in Europe) is actually a from of Stud Poker but you are playing for low cards, not high ones. For example the best possible hand to hold in Razz is Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5. The suits don’t matter, a flush doesn’t help of hinder your hand and aces are low.
So how does it work? Well these are the rules of Razz:
A game is usually played with eight players and is generally a ‘limit’ game, meaning each bet can only be of a predetermined amount. All players lay down their ante first. Each player will end up with seven cards if they are still in the game and to begin with each player is dealt three cards – two face down and one face up. The face up card determines the ‘bring in’ and the highest (worst) card gets this honour. If player have the same card, suits determine the bring in – spades first, hearts, diamonds and then clubs.
A round of betting now starts and assuming at least two players are left in another face up card is dealt. The lowest (strongest) hand then begins betting. Play continues in this fashion until the fifth round, at which point the fixed betting limit doubles. The seventh and last card is then dealt face down for added mystery.
The best five cards are then used to make the hand. An interesting twist in this game is that if the dealer runs out of cards, which can occasionally happen when all eight players are still in on the final hand, the dealer will lay down one face up community card for use by everyone. Give it a try, you can always go back to Black Jack later.
